Border for breeding animals open to North
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry announced that the border to the northern neighbouring countries has been opened for the export of breeding animals. The previous limitations of 5 animals per producer are thus temporarily suspended.
In the case of stud animals a certificate from the relevant Stud Breeders Association together with the application form in terms of the Stock Improvement Act No 25 of 1977 must be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water & Forestry. In the case of commercial breeding animals only the application form has to be submitted.

In her speech Dr Eberle mentioned that the Laboratory is currently being renovated and they will try and expand their services as soon as the renovations have been finished. She recommended that a meeting should be held in order to discuss the needs of the poultry producers.

European vote on the Market Access Regulation: 21 March 2013
On 21 March 2013 the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament (INTA) voted on the deadline for the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations (commonly referred to as a proposed amendment to the Market Access Regulation 1528 of 2007).  On the agenda were INTA’s original proposal of 01 January 2016 and the provisional trilogue agreement date of 01 October 2014.

In the end the majority of INTA members voted in favour of the provisional trilogue agreement date namely 01 October 2014.  This result will now go to a plenary vote of the European Parliament during the week of April 15.  Given the majority vote in INTA, it could be expected that the Parliament will endorse the result.
