2012 Meatco Inter-FA braai competition
For the third executive year the South shouted victory in the Meatco Inter-Farmers Associations braai competition. Congratulations to Stampriet FA who won the competition this year, with Uhlenhorst in the second place and Excelsior FA of the Outjo RAU in the third place. Congratulations also to the Aroab FA who hosted an excellent day at Keetmanshoop.

The president of the NAU, Mr Ryno van der Merwe also attended the day and mingled with the Farmers Associations which took part.

Animals in road reserves claim life of NAU member
Animals in road reserves, especially cattle, horses and donkeys, have for the past number of years been a big headache in rural areas. Mr Karl-Heinz Friederich of Tsumeb last week died as a result of an accident which happened on February 14 when he collided with a cow on the Tsumeb – Tsintsabis road.

Numerous years already the NAU tries to address this problem with the Ministry of Works and Transport as well as the Police. For one or other reason it seems that the responsible authorities cannot or do not apply the legislation even though a number of suggestions and assistance was offered by the farming community. The NAU at this stage tries to get statistics from the MVA Fund to determine the extent of the damages. Hopefully this negative picture will help the NAU in its battle to find a solution for animals in road reserves which is getting an ever bigger problem country wide.

Our condolences to the Friederich family with the passing away of Karl-Heinz who at the time of his death was the chairperson of the Tsumeb FA.

Show dates for 2012:
Stampriet: 5 – 7 September
Keetmanshoop: 6 – 8 September
Grootfontein: 19 – 21 September
Otjiwarongo: 24 – 26 September
Gobabis: 24 – 26 September
