16th Namibia Rangeland Forum: 11-13 September 2012

The 16th Namibia Rangeland Forum (NRF), sponsored by Agra was held at the Arebusch Lodge in Windhoek from 11 to 16 September 2012.  It was well attended by academics, farmers, extension and research staff and several other interest groups and individuals.

The audience
Mr. Rhyno van der Merwe, president of the Namibia Agriculture Union welcomed all participants, while Mr. Mecki Schneider introduced the audience to the  "Namibia Rangeland Management Policy and Strategy". Honorable John Mutorwa from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry officially handed over a copy  this newly approved policy and strategy to Mr. Rhyno van der Merwe after which he opened the 16th NRF forum. 
There were 17 very interesting presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday followed by a field trip on Thursday to Farm Duternbrook outside Windhoek.

Presenters included Dave Joubert, Dr.Hugh Pringle (Australia), Ibo Zimmerman, Kunebirth Shamathe, Colin Nott, Dr. C. Van Der Waal, Dagmar Honsbein, Prof. N. Smit, R. Dames, Nico De Klerk, Rolf Sprung (GIZ), Bertus Kruger and Axel Rothauge.  Mr. Nico de Klerk received the price for the best presentation "("Does It Pay To Combat Bush Encroatchment").
