SWAKARA auction
SWAKARA held a successful auction in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 8, 2013. All pelts were sold and the highest average price of N$2 534,54 was paid for a bundle of white pelts. The average price was N$646,88 which is a decrase of 7,19% against the N$696,97 which was achieved at the April auction. 40 263 black, 10 534 white, 4  302 gray and 800 diverse pelts were offered.
The biggest buyer was from Greece, followed by Italy and England. The top Namibian seller (with more than 250 pelts) was Danie Visser from Mariental who sold 301 pelts at an average price of N$835,28.
Listen to agricultural programs on the various radio stations
As from Friday, September 6, 2013 Hitradio Namibia has an agricultural program (Farmernews) for the German community and this program is broadcast on Fridays at 19:10 and on Saturday at 06:10. Hitradio can be heard on 97.5 (central coast) and 99.5FM (Windhoek and vicinity) or also via livestream (www.hitradio.com.na).
Landboumikrofoon is broadcast on the Afrikaans Service of the NBC on Saturday mornings at 06:00 and Sunday afternoons at 13:15.
The agricultural programs on Channel 7 are broadcast on Wednesdays at 14:10 and on Saturdays at 06:00.
NAU and LPO Congresses
The Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) Congress will be held on October 8, 2013 at the Safari Hotel and Conference Centre. The theme of the Congress is “Agriculture as the motive in industrialisation” and the official opening will be at the Heja Game Lodge.
The Livestock Producers Organisation (LPO) Congress will be held on October 10, 2013 at  the Safari Hotel and Conference Centre and the theme is “Cornerstone for growth”.
We also would like to point out that there will be a Woman’s Day for the spouses of the delegates and the theme is “Heart full of dreams...”. The Woman’s Day will be held on October 10, 2013 from 08:30 – 13:00 at the Vintage Coffee Shop (previously El Shaddai), Windhoek.
The LPO Agri Outlook Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Safari Hotel & Conference Centre and the registration fee is N$500. Amos Meercat Schools of AMS
Amos Namibia’s next pre-primary school (Amos Meercat Schools of AMS) training sessions for women and farm workers will be held from November 25 – 29, 2013. Two simultaneous training opportunities are offered – one in Outjo and one in Windhoek. There are still openings at the Windhoek training. If you have a farm workers wife on the farm that is literate and if there are pre-school children on the farm, please consider starting an AMS pre-school on your farm. The trainings fee for the week is N$300/person and this includes three meals per day. AMS supplies all material and stationery which will be needed for the school for the year. The farmer has to supply a room as well as tables and chairs for the learners. If you are interested in this project or want to sent a woman, please urgently contact Judie Wiese, Tel 081 1271018 / 062 570316. Entries close on September 30 or when there are enough entries.

FA and other news
The Kunene Regional Show will be held on September 14 at Sophienhof. The day starts at 07:00 with a “Dance until you drop”, at 08:30 a small stock show and inter-breed championships will be held, at 10:00 water fun und a “volleyball” tournament will be held and the day concludes at 20:00 with a dinner and dance. Dordabis FA is holding a member meeting on September 19 at 14:00 at the FA hall. Guest speaker is Mr Manfred Förtsch of Aqua Conservation Services and a person from Telecom who will talk about the Telecom survey about the needs of the „Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Livestock Reader Solution“. The SWAKARA Breeders Association is holding its Annual General Meeting on September 23 at the Canyon Hotel, Keetmanshoop. The meeting of the SWAKARA Industry Forum will be held on September 24 at the Canyon Hotel, Keetmanshoop and the SWAKARA Awards Ceremony will take place on September 24 at 18:00 for 18:30 at the Maritz Lodge, Keetmanshoop. Hoërand FA is holding a member meeting on September 24 at 15:00 at the FA hall at Farm Stubbenkamer, Maltahöhe district. Guest speakers are Mr Hannes Visagie from the Mariental RAU, Mr Leon Diedericks from Agra Maltahöhe, Mr Clutch Esterhuizen and Mr du Toit who will talk about the Crime Prevention Forum. The 2013 Amos prayer conference will be held from September 27 – 29 at the Rock Lodge, Okahandja. The theme is “What has sanctification to do with my farm?” Speaker is Mr Gideon Jacobs of the Kasizabantu Mission Station in Virginia, Free State. Farmers can take up to two farm workers along as there is a similar conference with the same theme for them. There is a limited number of accommodation and day visitors are also welcome. SWAKARA is offering the following training at Gellap Ost from October 1 – 3, 2013. The following courses are offered: beginner (slaughtering and splinting of Swakara pelts as well as basic information about the Swakara industry); standard and advanced (lasts until October 4); a wide aspect of other information, eg management of Swakara herds (ram purchases), sorting of pelts, rangeland management, market information (Swakara) as well as upgrading of other breeds for pelts production will be discussed during this week.
