Pig Meat Organisation openend by Meat Board
The General Manager of the Meat Board opened the Congress of the Pig Meat Producers' Organisation and made special mention of increasing input costs, especially feed costs, and a decreased demand for pork due to general economic pressure. He further emphasised that intensive feeding processes in Namibia are seldom profitable. Therefore intensive pig production will be extremely risky and will require good financial management. In spite of this the Meat Board regarded it essential to introduce a temporary measure to assist pig producers. The Meat Board will limit pig meat imports from 1 October 2012 by allowing only 3 kg to be imported for every 1 kg bought locally.
