THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: THE TASK AHEAD OF US IS NEVER AS GREAT AS THE POWER BEHIND US

In today’s newsletter:

·         Dairy Producers met
·         Previous NAU president highly awarded

Dairy Producers met
The Dairy Producers Association met for the last time in 2012. This management meeting again was combined with a planning session about the future of the dairy industry. Producers welcome the media reports of interest in dairy farms / developments in inter alia the Luderitz and Gobabis districts. However, producers express their concern that if the   imports of cheap dairy products are not URGENTLY addressed, the investments of these producers / organisation cannot be paid back. Growth in the dairy industry is directly coupled to –

1.    Profitability of the primary producer;
2.    Available market opportunities;
3.    Trust in the future so that investments can be paid back and
4.    Cooperation between players in the value chain.

The situation is still unchanged with regard to cheap dairy products which are imported and which undermine the competetiveness of the dairy industry. The Namibian products will have to be sold at very low prices in order to get rid of the volumes and this at big losses for the industry!
The Dairy Producers Association is hopeful that the negotiations the past year with the authorities would not be too late to save the industry.
Previous NAU president highly awarded
During the recent Meat Beef School at Aldam near Parys in South Africa the retired NAU president, Mr Ryno van der Merwe was awarded the Breedplan Merit Certificate for excellent contributions towards the expanding and promotion of agriculture in Southern Africa.
 On behalf of the president of the NAU, Mr Derek Wright and the Executive Council we would like to congratulate Ryno with this exceptional achievement.

Thank you
Wallace and Jill Theron would like to thank everybody who helped with the devastating veld fire. If it would not have been for you, the ± 10% grazing which we still had, would also have been burnt down. Thank you very much for your help – we really appreciate it.
