The previous NAU president, Mr Ryno van der Merwe this week introduced the president of the NAU, Mr Derek Wright officially to the Minister and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water & Forestry. During this introduction both parties again emphasized the importance of dialogue and communication in order to address common problems. According to the Minister it is very important that role players in the agricultural sector must communicate with each other in order to remove any misunderstandings.

Mr Wright in turn confirmed that the NAU will continue to support the Ministry of Agriculture, Water & Forestry under his leadership and that the relationship established must be maintained at all cost.

During the meeting the Minister honoured the previous president of the NAU, Mr Ryno van der Merwe with an n award with the following inscription:

Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) and Livestock Producers Organisation (LPO) review their strategic aims
The Executive Council (EC) of the NAU as well as the management of the LPO again reviewed their strategic aims during the last meeting of the year this week.

As expected the EC confirmed “Security of land ownership and land use” again as their highest priority for the activities of the NAU. The announcement of the provisional valuations rolls the past weeks convinced the ECthat the NAU must stay involved as a role players in order to try and make a contribution towards all aspects regarding agricultural land in Namibia including the land reform process, security about land ownership which could encourage investments in the agricultural sector and employment creation.
One strategic aim which was added is about the creation of a conducive environment for the agricutlural sector. This aim focuses mainly on the economic growth and employment creation, rural development and establishing Public Private Partnerships. The other 4 strategic aims are: effective and efficient communication to all role players, improve human capacity in the agricultural sector, effective and efficient management of the NAU and optial and sustainable use of agricultural potential.
During its strategic planning session the LPO divided its actions into two departments, namely local and international level. On local level the highest priority is the increase of production and many actions will have to be implemented to reach this aim. Producers’ involvement as well as marketing and marketing channels for meat products as well as animal health are the other priorities which were identified.
On national level the good relations in the industry and value chain, availability of reliable information, the sustainable management of natural resources as well as the involvement of agri-businesses at the activities of the LPO were identified as priorities. The combating of stock theft and predators will also be addressed on national level.
NAU Women’s Day
The Namibia Agricultural Union hosted a women’s day at the Vintage Coffee Shop in Windhoek on 10 October 2012.  The theme was “To give…” and 40 guests attended the event.  The day was made possible by Mr BasjanJacobsz of the Epukiro Farmers’ Association who single handed managed to obtain funds from various donors in the Omaheke area.
With lovely table settings and delicious food, the mood was set for the ladies to join in laughter and tears.  Ms.AlbeSnyman from Agra was the host and attracted many chuckles with her great sense of humour.  Guest speakers of the day were Mr Manfred Janik (Clinical Psychologist) and Dr Dirk Louw (Reverent Dutch Reformed Church) who educated the ladies on how to give to others and what positive effect that has on the giver, the receiver and even wider.
Mrs. Vicky Visser, from a farm in the south of Namibia, shared with the guests how easy it is to make delectable cheese from home and how it can be developed into a profitable business venture.  Mr Michael Smith of the Stellenbosch Wine Bar & Bistro treated the ladies to an exclusive wine and cheese tasting session.
