AGRA WEANER AUCTIONS KICK OFF.


                                                                                                 
 The first of 23 Agra weaner auctions was hosted and the first winners in the weaner calf competition were awarded.

On Wednesday 6 July in Okahandja, 663 weaners were sold at an average price of N$15.66 per kg. It was a pleasant surprise after the general decline of meat prices, that the highest price at the Okahandja auction reached N$18.29 for weaners in the 200kg category.

Further prices/kg were as follow:
·         Weaners 131kg to 200kg           average:16.78  to  maximum: N$18.29
·         Weaners 201kg to 250 kg          average: 15.47 to  maximum: N$17.14
·         Steer ox                                    average: 14.37 to  maximum: N$15.92
·         Heifers 131 to 200 kg                average: 15.49  to maximum: N$16.79
·         Heifers 201 to 250 kg                average:14.72   to maximum N$15.46
Various companies joined hands with Agra to reward the weaner calf winners with prizes.

Mr. R. Vekarapi was the winner of the weaners with the best potential on natural grazing and Mr. Mr. AO Jooste won the prize for weaners with the best feedlot potential.  Mr. HF Mudge was the producer who sold the most calves.

Congratulations to the Okahandja community and surrounding farmers, firstly, for the quality of the animals that were auctioned off and congratulations to all our winners at the auction! The National Championships, sponsored by Pupkewitz Motor Division, will take place later this year.
