Omaruru, Game Farmers Farmers Day: RL Game Ranch 8 August 2012

Omaruru Farmers Association held a very successful Game Farmers Farmers Day at RL Game Ranch (15 000 hectare) , 30 km outside Omaruru on the Karibib road. It was an extremely eventful day, which included interesting presentations like "Alternative Energy Systems" by Mr. Heiner Dorgeloh,  Dr. Ulf Tubbesing (originally from Omaruru) discussed the "Challenges of Game Farming". There was also a very informative presentation from SANLAM Financial Services by Mr. Barend Spies (son of late Jan Spies). Dr. Van Der Waal, the State Veterinarian at Omaruru used the opportunity to request all game farmers to assist her with determining  the impact of rabies among the wildlife population in Erongo region by reporting new cases including samples (heads of suspicious dead animals) for analysis.

There was also a practical demonstration by Robby Michael from Namib Taxidermy cc on how to correctly remove the skin from the head of a trophy Oryx. He can be contacted at: namibtaxidermy@mweb.com.na
