Make Your Own Yogurt

Making Yogurt is really easy. Just follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands with a good sterilizing agent (soap)
  2. Take the quantity of milk (clean raw milk) that you want to make yogurt with. For the purpose of this exercise let us use one liter (easy to convert)
  3. Add 6% sugar (white): 60g/liter milk
  4. Add color (from supermarket) to the your preferred shade. This step can be omitted if you do not want colored yogurt.
  5.  Boil the milk (just up to boiling point) together with the ingredients
  6. Cool the milk to 42-45 degrees Celsius
  7. Add 2 % (20g/liter milk) starter culture (purchase from supermarket: use natural plain yogurt)
  8. Add flavor (purchase from supermarket): 10ml/100liter of milk. This step can be omitted if you do not desire any flavor in your yogurt.
  9. Mix the flavor into the milk and then let it cool to room temperature (21-23 degrees Celsius) for 2 to 3 hours until it starts to thicken to form a jelly like consistency.
  10. Place the content into a cold room or fridge overnight at about 5 degrees Celscuis.
  11. The yogurt is ready for consumption. Remember to keep it cool
