The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry has procured trucks to the tune of N$4.6million for its Green Scheme Irrigation Projects.
The trucks were procured from Scania trucks, the company that will also be responsible for maintenance and training of the trucks drivers.
The two trucks (one with a cold storage component for fresh produce) will be used for the transporting of horticultural produce (fruits and vegetables) to the National Fresh Produce Business Hubs and the other truck will be used for transportation of cereals (maize, mahangu, rice etc) to the National Strategic Food Reserve Facilities and
Receiving the truck keys from Scania representative, Minister John Mutorwa emphasised the important role of transport in the agricultural value chain, saying that “Reliable transport is particularly important in supporting two important programs in the subsectors of agronomy, namely, the Green Scheme Projects and the Rain Fed Agriculture program”.
The procurement of the trucks is in line with the Ministry’s mandate to get food products from its various production centres to the marketing facilities. The two trucks will be used among the various Government irrigation projects.
